Saturday 20th May saw Macquarie University take on arch-rivals Sydney University at home. The first ten minutes of the game say the Tree Frogs at their attacking best scoring three unanswered tries.

The first try was scored after some good work by the backs. Centre Tim Gauci receiving a great ball from Luke Gavan just on halfway, broke the line before offloading to newcomer Troy Porter who raced in to score. The second try was again scored by Troy Porter, coming off the wing into the centres after an unfortunate injury to Brendan Blaiklock. Porter got a great ball from Jason Fuller before racing around the defence to score, again another try from halfway. The third try was Porters turn to deliver a good pass after great work from both centres and the fullback Bryan Summerhayes. Porter offloaded to Fuller who raced around to score. The try was started by great lead up work by Rob Gaudiaga playing at lock. Rob's value to the side has become evident in the past weeks as he can fill in in the halves, lock,hooker and in the backline. A quick play the ball after a good bust straight up the middle by Gaudiaga was enough to catch the defence napping. An oppurtunistic try to Sydney University saw the Tree Frogs go into the halftime break leading 14-4.

The second half was an end to end affair with both sides dropping plenty of ball with the line wide open. As the bigger forwards from Sydney started to tire the smaller forwards from Macquarie started to find the gaps out wide. Breaks by Gaudiaga, Steve Brogan and John Flint didn't eventuate though a try was disallowed. Another bust by second row sensation Matt Barnes saw him score out wide to put the game out of reach for Sydney University.

The last try for Sydney Uni came late into the game. With Macquarie down to 12 men with Matt Clifton in the sinbin they scored just next to the posts though it looked to be held up by Rob Gaudiaga. The referee awarded the try despite protests from the Macquarie players.

Best on the day were the centres Porter and Gauci and the forwards led by Marchegiani and Hani made ground at will. Special mention should go to fullback Bryan Summerhayes. Summerhayes seems to be getting better and better each game. He made three try saving tackles of which two shouldn't have been made. The last was a special. The big front rower from Sydney broke through a feeble tackle with just Summerhayes between him and the tryline. Showing him the sideline, the fullback made a desperate grab for the jumper and dragged him down just as help arrived to stop a certain try. Summerhayes was safe at the back the whole game and continually pressured the defence.

Overall not a brilliant win but the first half set it up for the Tree Frogs.

Saturday 3rd June saw the mighty Macquarie Green Tree Frogs extend their unbeaten run to four wins with a 32 -16 win over State Rail at Peter Hislop Oval. In a tough first half both teams went into the break locked at 10 all. Macquarie's first two tries were scored by Tim Gauci and Matt Clifton.

The second half saw a much more committed attack by Macquarie outscoring the home side four tries to one, Rail's last try coming when Macquarie had two men in the sin-bin.

The try of the match was a brilliant individual effort from Steve Brogan. After a break down the right side by centre Tim Gauci, Steve Brogan broke into space with only the winger to beat. Coming close to the sideline Steve chipped ahead, ran out of the field of play to go past the winger and then dived under the legs of the fullback to score a brilliant try.

The three other tries in the half were scored by five eight Luke Gavan, his try coming from a quick pass from Daniel Crute after a mistake by the Rail fullback from a bomb. A kick across field brought another try to evergreen lock John Flint who was in the right spot at the right time. The third try was by replacment fullback Michael Nahkle returning to the team after missing last season through injury.

Jason Fuller converted 4 from 7. Best on the day were Tim Gauci, Steve Brogan and in his last game for the club this year prop Christian Marchegiani
